After some down time, work has begun again on the new layout. A lot of the original ideas were scrapped and a somewhat simpler plan has emerged. I will still eventually be multi-deck but with a less-complicated footprint, no duck-unders, and wider aisles. Photos and plan to come...

So the drywall work and lighting are complete and the new layout is under construction. Even though a lot of the old layout will be reused the new one is a bit of a departure. The new space is smaller - length and width - but larger in height. So eventually it will be 3 levels. I'm trying to get trains running ASAP so I'm breaking things into manageable phases. Phase 1 in moving along (see pics). More to come! So the layout is gone - a victim of our move from Massachusetts. The major scenes were saved and are sitting in a storage container - waiting to be part of a new, and hopefully improved, Conn River Lines. More in the future but some updates for the paper houses - downloads, photos and instructions... enjoy!
Haven't been able to do much updating this year. Finished the FT set (photos to come).
Making another pass at Charlestown NH - hopefully get the scenery complete. I had hoped to pick up some needed supplies at the Springfield show but no luck - just a couple of books, some paint and a little scenery materials. I've been pretty busy putting together kits for Steve Lamb - he's got a couple of new projects underway so it should be fun. He handed me a FSM Hazen Boyd Co. kit today - it weighs about 10 pounds and apparently runs about $280. It looks pretty elaborate and should be a fun challenge. I'll try to grab some in-progress pictures for the HowTo section... Busy with holiday prep. Assembling some flat car kits in my free time. Finally talking the undecorated Stewart FT A/B I bought years ago. I have the decals and the paint - better use them before they go bad. Just need to get a few detail pieces and then time to fire up the air brush...
BB Apparently the big block of text I typed here the first time didn't take so I'll type it all in again.
That should teach me to always copy things into notepad before I save or submit. Anyway, good feedback from linking the web page on Facebook. Plus I learned how to set up the SEO header to show the text and images I want on Facebook. Of course, I needed to figure out the image file names on here first (right click - properties). Also discovered that you can only add one image to one block of text, so just needed to break the big block of text into smaller ones. Making progress on the Pleasant Street houses - hopefully some new pics soon... So Gwen and I stopped by the Marlboro train show last Sunday. Pretty good as usual - lots of modular layouts. The usual vendors - tons of modern diesels, auto racks and high cube boxcars... not so much for a 1950's guy like me. One, ONE guy had paint - and only because he ran back and got some after the Saturday session. He had discontinued Polly Scale paint so I picked some up. That's the new theme of shows - grab the last products of all the companies that have gone out of business in the last few years because you'll never see that stuff again. Eventually there will just be one giant Atlas/Athearn/Walthers company selling $700 steam locomotives with mandatory DCC, sound and whatever new overpriced feature they come up with...
A little break for a long 50th birthday weekend in Key West.
Updating the web site and moving things around a little after a little feedback from Gwen. Still a work in progress... -BB |
